Trostyanets is actively strengthening its energy independence with the support of its twin town, Montabaur (Germany), GIZ Ukraine – the representative office of the German Society for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) – and German civil society organisations supporting Ukraine.

Today, another humanitarian consignment arrived to Trostyanets from Montabaur – two solar power stations, each with a capacity of 40 kW, together with high-capacity battery systems. The solar power stations will be installed on the roofs of city’s secondary schools No. 2 and 3. This will help save public funds and ensure the continuity of the educational process. It is worth noting that, as part of preparations for winter, the roofs of these educational institutions have been repaired.

“Solar power stations on school roofs are the most effective tool for ensuring self-sufficiency and uninterrupted learning in the event of potential winter power cuts“, – says Mayor Yurii Bova. “Our municipality is preparing for winter amidst the war. We can see that the enemy is not ceasing its attacks on critical infrastructure. The task of the city authorities is to do everything possible to ensure that all educational, medical, social and cultural institutions are equipped with solar power. Every facility that becomes energy-independent strengthens the resilience of our hromada and will help us get through the winter in wartime conditions“.
We would like to express our boundless gratitude to the German Government, which supports Ukrainian cities through the state-owned company GIZ, to our sister city of Montabaur and personally to its mayor, Melanie Leicher, and to the German-Ukrainian organisation “Blue-Yellow Cross” (Blau-Gelbes-Kreuz e.V.) in Cologne (chaired by Linda May) for their financial assistance, which covered the cost of transporting the goods to Trostyanets city hromada.

Every bit of help from our friends abroad to us Ukrainians is a vital contribution to our preparations for facing yet another winter in wartime conditions.
