Cities of Marlow and Rugby, United Kingdom

An Example of International Solidarity and Support for the Trostyanets Hromada

Cooperation between the Trostyanets City Territorial Hromada and the city of Marlow is an example of how international partnerships and personal connections can grow into real support for a community during the most difficult times. Cooperation between Trostyanets and the British partners started during a trade mission to the United Kingdom, where Mayor Yuriy Bova met representatives of the Marlow Ukraine Collective and community activist Chris Horn.

One of the first major results of this cooperation was the transfer of 51 generators for families of the Trostyanets Hromada who constantly suffer from shelling and power outages. The generators were provided to socially vulnerable residents and became important support for ensuring basic living conditions during the winter period.

An important continuation of the partnership was the transfer of three powerful generators for the needs of the hromada’s critical infrastructure. Two 11 kW generators were purchased with funds raised by the charity initiative Marlow Ukraine Collective and transferred to support the operation of the city water supply facilities. Another 15 kW Hyundai generator was purchased with funds raised during a charity concert organized by the Organisation of Ukrainian Women in Coventry, Helena Grant, and the Ukrainian community of Rugby. The generator was installed at the central boiler station that provides heating for the city’s largest school and cultural institutions.

Thanks to this support, Trostyanets received the opportunity to maintain stable operation of water supply and heating systems even during emergency power outages caused by attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

British volunteer and community organizations play a special role in developing this cooperation. They united both British citizens and Ukrainians living in the United Kingdom around supporting Ukraine.

Partnerships with Marlow and Rugby are a clear example of how openness to international dialogue, an active position, and trust between people can turn into concrete solutions and real help for residents.

Cooperation between Trostyanets and the British partners continues to develop and opens new opportunities for international cooperation, support of critical infrastructure, and implementation of joint humanitarian initiatives.
