Bystřice nad Pernštejnem (Czech Republic) — a Reliable European Partner of Trostyanets City
Date of signing the partnership agreement: 28 May 2018
Current Mayor: Martin Horák
The partnership between the Trostyanets City Territorial Hromada and the city of Bystřice nad Pernštejnem is an example of consistent international cooperation based on mutual respect, shared values, and practical support. The cooperation covers humanitarian, cultural, educational, and municipal areas and contributes to the development of both communities.
The official foundation of this cooperation was the signing of the partnership and cooperation agreement, which opened new opportunities for exchanging experience in local self-government, civic initiatives, sports, culture, and the implementation of joint international projects. Since the beginning of the partnership, both sides have actively developed constructive dialogue and practical cooperation.
An important area of cooperation is the exchange of experience in sustainable development and municipal management. Representatives of the Trostyanets studied the experience of their Czech partners in attracting European funding, developing sports and social infrastructure, implementing energy-efficient solutions, creating modern library spaces, active recreation parks, and environmental projects.
Special attention during working visits was paid to the experience of creating modern sports facilities, developing cycling infrastructure, and arranging cycling routes. The Czech partners demonstrated examples of a comprehensive approach to promoting an active lifestyle and sports environment, which became an important reference point for future projects of the Trostyanets hromada.
The idea of the ecological and educational park “Eden” in the Czech city became the basis for developing the concept of the “Edem” park project in the village of Boholiubove, Trostyanets hromada. The partners shared practical experience in combining environmental education, modern public spaces, tourist attractions, and environmental protection solutions within one integrated project.
An important example of practical support was the transfer of a passenger vehicle from the Czech partners. Today, this vehicle is used as an official service car for the needs of the community and the operation of local self-government bodies.
The partnership gained particular importance during the full-scale war. Bystřice nad Pernštejnem provided the Trostyanets hromada with generators to ensure the operation of Points of Invincibility, shelters, kindergartens, and other socially important facilities. This assistance became a significant contribution to the community’s resilience during energy-related challenges.
Another important example of genuine solidarity was the financial support for the restoration of the Trostyanets City Hospital. After another enemy attack, the Czech partners promptly decided to provide EUR 20,000 for the repair of the medical institution. This assistance made it possible to restore the hospital’s operations more quickly, which is critically important for the residents of the community.
The city leadership plays a significant role in the development of the partnership. A substantial contribution to establishing the cooperation was made by former mayor Karel Pačiska, while the further development of the partnership is actively supported by Mayor Martin Horák. Thanks to the open and supportive position of the city leadership, cooperation between the communities continues to expand and evolve through new initiatives.
Cultural diplomacy also occupies a special place in the partnership. Artists and creative groups from Trostyanets have participated in events in the Czech Republic, held concerts in support of Ukraine, organized workshops for children, and presented Ukrainian culture.
The partnership between Trostyanets and Bystřice nad Pernštejnem is an example of how cities from different countries can effectively unite their efforts to support people, develop communities, and shape a shared European future.
