Our long-time friends and reliable partners – representatives of the separate unit of the Okhtyrsk branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross, led by Oksana Oliynyk, visited Trostyanets city hromada. They once again brought aid for people who were forced to leave their homes due to the war and found shelter in our city hromada.
This time, a gas stove, a washer and dryer, sets of bed linen and hygiene kits were donated for the houses where internally displaced persons will live. In total, the Red Cross will provide seven houses with seven gas stoves and seven washers and dryers. These houses will be home to families with children, the elderly and people with disabilities who were forced to evacuate to Trostyanets hromada from territories suffering from constant enemy shelling.

Head of the Department of Construction, Urban Planning and Architecture of Trostyanets City Council, Viktor Nykonenko, explained how these houses and apartments were equipped:
“The equipment of these apartments for IDPs became possible thanks to the state program, which began operating in 2025 and provides for financing housing repairs for internally displaced persons. The Trostyanets City Council developed the necessary project documentation for 7 apartments and houses that were in municipal ownership, and successfully participated in the selection. As a result, the community received UAH 2.4 million in state funding in 2025 and another UAH 2.6 million in 2026. Currently, repair work on three objects is nearing completion. They began in November 2025. Two apartments are located in Trostyanets, another house is in a rural settlement of the community.”

After the renovations are completed, the housing will be fully ready for occupancy. The apartments have living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, heating, water supply, and all necessary communications.
The cost of repairing the first apartment, where household appliances have already been delivered, is about 800 thousand UAH. In the near future, with the support of benefactors, the apartments will also be equipped with furniture – beds, tables, chairs, wardrobes, and other necessary things for a comfortable stay.
Currently, 2,286 internally displaced persons are registered in our city hromada. The number continues to grow, as residents of the border areas of Sumy region continue to be forced to leave their homes due to the security situation.
