Trostyanets city hromada was selected as a winner in the competitive selection process for the Swiss-Ukrainian DECIDE project (Decentralization for the Development of Democratic Education), successfully passing the selection among 231 applications submitted by municipalities across Ukraine.
On June 2, a workshop titled “Reform of Upper Secondary Schools: Opportunities and Challenges for the Community” was held in Romny – the final event within the framework of specialized professional development programs for heads of territorial communities, their deputies, and education administrators.

Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Sumy Regional Military Administration, Sumy Regional Council, and experts from the DECIDE project, 47 partner hromadas of Sumy oblast, including mayors, and heads of education management bodies, discussed practical aspects of implementing the upper secondary school reform, sought answers to pressing questions, and shared their vision for the development of the educational network in their hromadas.
Trostyanets city was represented by Trostyanets Mayor Yuriy Bova, Deputy Mayor Lyudmyla Lynnyk, and Head of the Education Department of the Trostyanets City Council Anna Zubova.

The event was attended by Nadiya Kuzmichova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, who spoke about the government’s position on reforming specialized education. Valentyna Poltorak, DECIDE project manager and deputy chair of the DOCCU NGO, presented opportunities for further collaboration within Phase 2 of the DECIDE project.
As part of this project, our city will receive expert support for implementing reforms in upper-level specialized education, as well as access to professional development programs for school administrators, teachers, school psychologists, and specialists at inclusive resource centers. Training and consultations will be conducted by Ukrainian and Swiss experts.

One of the key areas of cooperation will be the development of a career guidance system for children and youth. The project involves establishing career guidance hubs, fostering collaboration between educational institutions and business representatives, and developing modern approaches to preparing young people for their future careers.
In addition, project participants will have the opportunity to take part in training sessions and experience-sharing programs, receive advisory support, and participate in the implementation of key educational reforms. The project also includes the introduction of internship programs for young people in local government bodies.
Participation in the project opens up new opportunities for Trostyanets to develop the education sector, modernize the educational system, and implement reforms in upper-level specialized secondary schools.
