Having travelled 3,000 kilometres, another Volvo bus from Switzerland has arrived to Trostyanets. It was purchased for our city by our trusted friends and partners: Herr Hans and Frau Sebille Strack-Zimmermann, with the support of their business partner and philanthropist Markus Wasmeier.
This is now the ninth ‘Volvo’ bus to be delivered from the Swiss capital, Bern, to Trostyanets! Three of them were purchased at the expense of the Strack-Zimmermann family! The buses are not new, but they are in good working order. They were previously in service on routes in the Swiss capital and were maintained by the transport company BERNMOBIL. Incidentally, earlier this year, when the previous buses arrived in Trostyanets, sets of spare parts for them were also delivered by BERNMOBIL.
“The development of the Trostyanets city’s transport policy is a long-term process that requires a strategic vision and the involvement of international donors, partners and the public”, – said Mayor Yurii Bova, recalling that Trostyanets city began its cooperation with City of Bern and the transport company BERNMOBIL over two years ago. As Switzerland has supported Ukraine since the very first days of the war, the issue of providing public transport vehicles was resolved positively: Trostyanets city hromada received comfortable buses with spacious interiors and comfortable seats, adapted for the transport of people with disabilities. The buses are equipped with special ramps and securing devices to ensure safe transport”.
It is worth adding that the interior of the bus, which has just arrived to Trostyanets, is filled with humanitarian aid. This consists of 20 sports bicycles for children and adults, all in good working condition as well as cycling helmets.
Youth civil society organisation USB Ukraine Schweiz Bern assisted in the purchase of buses and bicycles, and in the future will support Ukrainian municipalities in accessing used buses at favorable prices.
It is heartening that people of all ages and social backgrounds, with kindness in their hearts, are reaching out to help us – Ukrainians! This is not the first time that Klaus-Henner Russius, a German volunteer of a respectable age, has helped the people of Trostyanets; on this occasion, he donated 45 pairs of crutches for people with limited mobility.
