As Trostyanets city hromada continues to overcome the consequences of the Russian occupation and hostilities, every school opening is a crucial event for students, their parents, and the teaching staff.
Thanks to the joint initiative of the Trostianets City Council and international philanthropists from the Netherlands, Open Door Ukraine, last week we managed to resume mixed education in another local school.
The Dutch charitable foundation Open Door Ukraine made a significant contribution to the restoration of the school. It was thanks to their financial support that the roof, which had been damaged by a shell, was repaired. This helped to protect the school from further damage and allowed us to return to work on its interior.

The help of volunteers was also extremely important. Volunteers from the Sumy branch of Dobrobat carried out internal repairs in classrooms where the damage was minimal. They updated the electrical wiring, replaced the floor and doors, performed plastering work and prepared these rooms for classes. Materials for the repairs were also purchased with funds from Open Door Ukraine.
Special attention was paid to creating safe conditions for children to stay at the school – a modern semi-buried modular shelter was built for 50 people. This became an important condition for the transition from distance to blended learning. In cooperation with philanthropists, 25 thousand euros were raised for this shelter, an investment not only in safety but also in the stability of the educational process.
School corridors, teachers’ rooms, and the entrance area were also renovated, and the roof was replaced in another building, where they plan to equip a dining room and rooms for a kindergarten.
We are sincerely grateful to the Open Door Ukraine Foundation and its director Robert Sera for their invaluable assistance. Every child who returns to school is another step towards a strong, educated and peaceful future for Ukraine.
