    Project objective

Providing high-quality water and a reliable sewage system to the citizens of Trostyanets by constructing a new artesian well with a depth of 810 meters, which will provide high-quality drinking water to 11 200 citizens of the western part of the city, and reconstructing a sewage pumping station with the laying of a pressure collector, which will allow serving 1 500 citizens of the central part of the city.

    The relevance of the project

Trostyanets faces an urgent need to modernize its water supply and sewage systems. Given the growing load on the infrastructure caused by both natural wear and tear on the networks and an increase in the population due to internally displaced persons, the issue of providing the population with quality drinking water and reliable sewage disposal is becoming critical.

Today, the western part of the city is supplied with water from a single 110-meter-deep well, which is technically worn out and does not provide a stable and safe water supply. The water quality from the existing source does not meet state sanitary standards, in particular in terms of iron content. At the same time, there are no backup water intakes, which poses a threat of water supply interruption for more than 11,000 citizens, including vulnerable groups.

The situation with water disposal is also problematic. Wastewater and stormwater from the central part of the city are discharged through an outdated system that requires significant energy costs due to the need to lift wastewater 65 meters to the treatment plant. In addition to high operating costs, this system is vulnerable to accidents and does not meet modern energy efficiency and environmental safety requirements.

The implementation of the proposed project will comprehensively solve these problems: provide a reliable source of quality drinking water, reduce the risk of water supply interruption, improve the environmental situation in the city, reduce electricity and maintenance costs, and create the preconditions for stabilizing utility tariffs.

    Project goals

    1. Provide reliable water supply to at least 11 200 citizens of the western part of Trostyanets by constructing a new artesian well 810 meters deep into the Cenomanian-Lower Cretaceous aquifer.
    2. Improve the quality of drinking water in accordance with the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Norms 2.2.4-171-10 by providing access to a water supply source with an acceptable level of iron and other chemical parameters.
    3. Increase the energy efficiency of the wastewater system by arranging a new sewage pumping station with a daily capacity of 600 m³/day and a pressure collector, which will reduce electricity consumption by 205.6 thousand kW per year.
    4. Reduce operating costs for the maintenance of the wastewater system, in particular, reduce the number of pumping station staff by 4 full-time units due to process automation.
    5. Improve the environmental situation in the central part of the city by reducing the load on outdated wastewater treatment facilities and reducing the risk of wastewater discharges into the environment.
    6. Ensure the uninterrupted operation of social infrastructure (educational, medical institutions, enterprises – about 2 000 people in total), which are critically dependent on a stable water supply.

    Project tasks

    1. Drill an exploration and production artesian well with a depth of 810 meters into the Cenomanian-Lower Cretaceous aquifer to ensure a stable and high-quality water supply to the western part of Trostyanets.
    2. To build an underground pumping station above the new well and equip it with modern pumping equipment that meets sanitary and hygienic requirements for drinking water.
    3. Provide power supply and automation of the water supply system, including installation of power electrical equipment and control systems.
    4. To equip the first sanitary protection zone of the water intake following the current regulatory requirements.
    5. Reconstruct the drainage system of the central part of the city, in particular by constructing a sewage pumping station with a capacity of 600 m³/day and laying a new pressure collector.
    6. Reduce energy consumption by at least 205.6 thousand kWh/year by optimizing the operation of the wastewater system.

The target audience of the project

    1. Citizens of the western part of the city of Trostyanets – more than 11 200 people who currently do not have access to quality drinking water and are dependent on a single outdated water supply source.
    2. Citizens of the central part of Trostyanets – about 1 500 people who use an outdated sewage system with a high risk of accidents, environmental threats and irrational use of electricity.
    3. Social infrastructure of the city – educational, healthcare, administrative institutions and enterprises that serve approximately 2 000 people and need a stable water supply and an efficient wastewater system for uninterrupted operation.
    4. Municipal enterprise “Trostyanetskomunservice” is a balance sheet holder and operator of utility networks interested in reducing energy costs, increasing system reliability, automating processes and stabilizing tariff policy.

    Expected results of the project

    1. A stable and safe water supply for more than 11,200 citizens of the western part of Trostyanets was ensured through the construction of a new deep-water artesian well with a depth of 810 meters.
    2. A guaranteed source of drinking water was created for 100 internally displaced persons living in a modular town in the Neskuchne tract.
    3. Ensured that the quality of drinking water meets state hygiene standards, in particular in terms of iron content, which will have a positive impact on public health.
    4. The sewage system of the central part of the city was reconstructed to serve about 1500 residents, which will eliminate existing problems with accidents, flooding, and overloading of treatment facilities.
    5. A new sewage pumping station with a capacity of 600 m³/day and a pressure collector were built, which ensure efficient collection and transportation of wastewater without the need to climb 65 meters.
    6. Electricity savings of at least 205.6 thousand kWh/year were achieved, which allows to reduce the cost of maintaining engineering infrastructure and improve tariff policy.
    7. Reduced operating costs of the utility company, including reducing the number of pumping station staff by 4 units due to automation.
    8. Improved the environmental situation in the city by reducing the risk of untreated wastewater entering the environment and reducing the anthropogenic load on existing wastewater treatment facilities.

Project implementation period – 1 year.

    Project implementation costs:

    Stages of project implementation:

Construction of an artesian well – EUR 543 578

Construction of a sewage pumping station – EUR 162 263.

Total costs of project implementation – EUR 705 841.

Municipal web-portal "Global Trostyanets" of Trostyanets city hromada was founded in May 2026 as a quick response and gratitude to all our international partners who helped our hromada survive after the occupation in 2022 and develop today. To some extent, this is a unique web resource, which has no analogues in Ukraine.

Trostyanets is becoming an example of high-quality reconstruction and resilience. Financial support from the state and international partners has given us the chance to restore the housing stock, equip premises for the accommodation of displaced persons, create modern medical institutions, launch the educational process, revive and develop the municipal sphere.

Today we have already demonstrated that restoration is not only about rebuilding buildings. It is the path to a qualitatively new level of life for municipality! We have become an example for the country and a convincing signal for foreign donors: aid brings tangible changes.
