In Sumy, Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hrygorov, held a meeting with the UNHCR Representative in Ukraine, Ms. Bernadette Castel-Hollingsworth, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Belgium to Ukraine, Luc Jacobs, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine, Thomas Lund-Sorensen, as well as the Deputy Ambassador, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine, Donatas Butkus.

It is especially important for the Sumy region that international partners come directly to the region – to see with their own eyes the conditions in which the border region lives, to communicate with people and communities and to better understand our needs.
They talked about the humanitarian situation, security challenges and support for people who, despite everything, remain, live and work in our communities. We focused separately on further cooperation: energy sustainability of communities, projects in the field of medicine, support for veteran and youth initiatives, as well as exchange of experience.

With the support of UNHCR, a number of important humanitarian initiatives have been implemented in Sumy Oblast. In particular, modular houses have been created for people who were forced to leave their homes due to constant Russian shelling. During the visit, representatives of the organization visited families who already live in such houses and are settling into life in a new, safer place.
