An automatic non-contact tonometer for measuring eye pressure was donated to the ophthalmology office of PrJSC “Mondelis Ukraine” and the charitable foundation “Blagomai”. The cost of the equipment is over 400 thousand UAH.

Ophthalmologist of the first qualification category Natalia Skorokhod noted that such a device is necessary for the early detection of glaucoma and other eye diseases.

“A non-contact tonometer is used for convenient measurement of eye pressure,” says Natalia Anatoliivna. Among its advantages: the speed of the study, which takes several minutes; safety, because there is no contact of the device with the eyes and the risks of infection or microtrauma; accuracy of data, thanks to the automation of calculations; comfort – the procedure does not cause unpleasant sensations, no anesthetic drops are required.

When performing the study, you should follow the doctor’s instructions: sit in front of the device, fix your chin and look at a certain point for some time.

Indications for conducting eye tonometry are:

    • age over 40 years old – it is recommended to perform it once a year
    • suspected glaucoma
    • retinal detachment, previous eye surgeries, laser vision correction
    • liver diseases
    • diabetes and other endocrine diseases
    • pathologies of the neurological system
    • allergy to medications (anesthetics)

In аor preventive purposes, adults aged 19-39 are recommended to measure intraocular pressure once every 3 years. Children are also given this procedure if there are indications for this.

Regular monitoring of eye pressure indicators allows you to detect glaucoma in time. This is a very serious disease that destroys the fibers of the optic nerve and can threaten blindness! If there is an increase in eye pressure, then its dynamics are checked over a certain period of time. If necessary, the patient is referred for additional examination.

The received equipment has improved the provision of ophthalmological services to residents of the Trostyanets and Boromlya hromadas, as well as tonometry services for displaced persons from other regions. Approximately 15 patients are provided with the eye tonometry service per day.

The ophthalmologist Natalia Skorokhod and the office nurse Oksana Politiucha have mastered working with the device.

“We sincerely thank PJSC “Mondelis Ukraine” and the “Blagomai” Charity Fund for their constant assistance to our hospital, which continues for more than first year!, – says Liliya Gontar, General Director of the Trostyanets City Hospital.

Municipal web-portal "Global Trostyanets" of Trostyanets city hromada was founded in May 2026 as a quick response and gratitude to all our international partners who helped our hromada survive after the occupation in 2022 and develop today. To some extent, this is a unique web resource, which has no analogues in Ukraine.

Trostyanets is becoming an example of high-quality reconstruction and resilience. Financial support from the state and international partners has given us the chance to restore the housing stock, equip premises for the accommodation of displaced persons, create modern medical institutions, launch the educational process, revive and develop the municipal sphere.

Today we have already demonstrated that restoration is not only about rebuilding buildings. It is the path to a qualitatively new level of life for municipality! We have become an example for the country and a convincing signal for foreign donors: aid brings tangible changes.
