  • Danish Refugee Council

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is actively involved in humanitarian efforts in Trostyanets, Sumy Oblast, particularly focusing on mine safety and risk awareness for the local community.

Representatives of the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) visited City Lyceum No. 1. Over two days, January 26-27, they conducted classes for children on mine safety.

In an understandable and accessible way, the experts told the students about the dangers posed by explosive objects, taught them the rules of safe behavior, and explained what to do if they find something suspicious.

The international experts told the children what explosive objects look like and where they can be found. They explained the main rules of behavior in mined areas, as well as the steps to take if ammunition or other explosive objects are found. After the class, the participants received answers to their questions.

We sincerely thank the DRC representatives for the useful information, attention to the children of Trostyanets, and cooperation with educational institutions to protect their lives and health! Such meetings teach children the correct actions to take in dangerous situations and help save lives. Safety begins with knowledge!

For reference. The DRC has had a representative office in Ukraine since 2014. After February 24, 2022, the DRC launched a multisectoral response to the large-scale humanitarian crisis. In recent years, the DRC has supported millions of people in the areas of social and legal protection, economic development, and housing reconstruction.

Key Activities in Trostyanets & Region:

    • Mine Risk Education: DRC representatives have conducted safety training sessions for children and residents, including presentations at local educational institutions like City Lyceum No. 1.
    • Mine Action & Demining: The DRC conducts humanitarian demining, including survey and clearance activities in heavily impacted areas of the Sumy region.
    • Humanitarian Aid: The organization provides comprehensive support, including legal counseling for damaged housing and psychosocial assistance, with services often provided in regional hubs.

    Contact Information for Assistance:

    • DRC Hotline (Ukraine): 0 800 331 913 (working days 9:00–17:00).
    • Feedback/Complaints: [email protected] or 0 800 33 95 18. drc.ngo +1

The DRC operates in 19 oblasts across Ukraine and is one of the largest international NGOs providing aid in conflict-affected regions.

Municipal web-portal "Global Trostyanets" of Trostyanets city hromada was founded in May 2026 as a quick response and gratitude to all our international partners who helped our hromada survive after the occupation in 2022 and develop today. To some extent, this is a unique web resource, which has no analogues in Ukraine.

Trostyanets is becoming an example of high-quality reconstruction and resilience. Financial support from the state and international partners has given us the chance to restore the housing stock, equip premises for the accommodation of displaced persons, create modern medical institutions, launch the educational process, revive and develop the municipal sphere.

Today we have already demonstrated that restoration is not only about rebuilding buildings. It is the path to a qualitatively new level of life for municipality! We have become an example for the country and a convincing signal for foreign donors: aid brings tangible changes.
