A significant milestone for the community’s future development was the signing of a twinning agreement between Trostyanets City Council and Comune di Silvi, in the Abruzzo region of Italy.

The agreement was signed yesterday, 29 May, via an online ceremony. On behalf of the Trostyanets City Council, this important document was signed by Mayor Yuriy Bova, whilst Mayor Andrea Scordella signed on behalf of the Municipality of Silvi.

It should be noted that cooperation between Trostyanets and the Italian town of Silvi began in July 2025, laying a solid foundation for a future partnership. Silvi is a beautiful resort town on the Adriatic coast with a rich history, unique culture and incredible atmosphere, known as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’.

“For our community, which is suffering from Russian aggression, located just 35 kilometres from the enemy border, which in 2022 endured a terrible month of Russian occupation and is now actively rebuilding, this step is a sign of sincere respect for our state and for us, Ukrainians; it is a helping hand extended by you, our dear Italian friends,” said Mayor Yurii Bova in his welcoming speech.

Our partnership is of paramount importance to Trostyanets, because despite the war, we are committed to the development of the community’s culture and tourism, and in particular, to the well-being of our children and their emotional recovery.

During an online meeting, representatives of the leadership of Trostyanets City Council and the municipality of Silvi agreed to cooperate in areas such as children’s health and rehabilitation, and the exchange of expertise in the fields of culture, sport and youth policy. In addition, Trostyanets is interested in exchanging experience in the fields of municipal management, energy efficiency, ecology and infrastructure development.

Mayor Andrea Scordella invited representatives from Trostyanets to the town of Silvi and proposed, as a first step in the cooperation, to share the experience of the Italian emergency services, as this topic is particularly relevant to our frontline community.

On behalf of all residents of the Trostyanets city hromada, Mayor Yuriy Bova expressed his gratitude to Andrea Scordella, the Mayor of Silvi, the municipality and every resident of this wonderful Italian town for their solidarity with Ukraine, and for their faith in the Hero City of Trostyanets and its people:

“I would also like to thank the diplomats, officials, volunteers and everyone who helped organise this partnership! We have a lot of joint work ahead of us, the development of important projects and our first mutual visits. I am convinced that this friendship will be strong, long-lasting and will bring real benefits to the reside.

Municipal web-portal "Global Trostyanets" of Trostyanets city hromada was founded in May 2026 as a quick response and gratitude to all our international partners who helped our hromada survive after the occupation in 2022 and develop today. To some extent, this is a unique web resource, which has no analogues in Ukraine.

Trostyanets is becoming an example of high-quality reconstruction and resilience. Financial support from the state and international partners has given us the chance to restore the housing stock, equip premises for the accommodation of displaced persons, create modern medical institutions, launch the educational process, revive and develop the municipal sphere.

Today we have already demonstrated that restoration is not only about rebuilding buildings. It is the path to a qualitatively new level of life for municipality! We have become an example for the country and a convincing signal for foreign donors: aid brings tangible changes.
