Over 700 participants – community leaders, architects, urban planners, experts in sustainable development of urban areas from different countries of the world, representatives of international organizations that help Ukrainian cities, took part in the Lviv Urban Forum, which was held in the city of Lviv from June 28 to 30, 2023.

Trostyanets city hromada was represented by Deputy Mayor of Trostyanets, Volodymyr Zlepko. During the Forum, over 40 world-class speakers shared their experience on how to rebuild Ukraine, whether it is necessary to restore destroyed spaces and objects in the form and with the system of values that was established in Soviet or post-Soviet times, what development strategy should be chosen by communities that have lost their most valuable resource – people. As well as how to make the space such that residents want to return and realize themselves in their community – comfortable, inclusive and safe for life. How to optimize the budget and resources to create inexpensive but effective solutions, and how to preserve the memory of the events and people who create our history today in the public space.

“The impressions from the event are rich, both from the venues of the forum itself, which are the Lviv City Hall, which is located in the center of Lviv on Rynok Square, and #FESTrepublic, a place that combines the opportunity for work and recreation, and from the number of participants, which was over 700, including mayors and chief architects of cities, urbanists, government officials, urban planners, students and scientists,” says Volodymyr Zlepko on his Facebook page. “I would like to thank all the organizers of the #LvivUrbanForum, which will give impetus to qualitative transformations of both the affected cities and Ukraine as a whole.”

During the Lviv Urban Forum, participants from different cities and countries shared the atmosphere and experience, studied the cycling infrastructure of Lviv, visited memorable places, listened to inspiring lectures and worked in workshops. Each of the participants, regardless of experience, adopted new ideas and approaches to further qualitatively restore and develop their cities.

Municipal web-portal "Global Trostyanets" of Trostyanets city hromada was founded in May 2026 as a quick response and gratitude to all our international partners who helped our hromada survive after the occupation in 2022 and develop today. To some extent, this is a unique web resource, which has no analogues in Ukraine.

Trostyanets is becoming an example of high-quality reconstruction and resilience. Financial support from the state and international partners has given us the chance to restore the housing stock, equip premises for the accommodation of displaced persons, create modern medical institutions, launch the educational process, revive and develop the municipal sphere.

Today we have already demonstrated that restoration is not only about rebuilding buildings. It is the path to a qualitatively new level of life for municipality! We have become an example for the country and a convincing signal for foreign donors: aid brings tangible changes.
